Gail Hawes is a textile lover at heart. She was introduced to embroidery at a young age, and since returning to Perth after a career overseas, began to focus on her creative practice. As both an antique textile collector and contemporary creative, these worlds frequently collide as she takes inspiration from world textiles and the groups who made them. The exploration of the boundaries of materiality is a focus as she combines the traditional with the unfamiliar, often resulting in the unexpected.
