Nic Compton was raised in Aotearoa New Zealand with Maori connections and always felt his culture around him. Nic now lives and works in the wheatbelt town of York, continuing over 30 years of successful art making. His sculptural works draw on an ancient sensibility. He has a strong passion for carving natural materials such as timber and stone to create works that provoke thought and wonder. Taking inspiration from walking, swimming, and canoeing in natural and urban environments, his work is placed in Australia, Aotearoa and further afield.
