About

Charmaine Ball is a Boorloo (Perth) artist with a background in Graphic Design whose artistic practice encompasses both painting and sculpture. Her hand-built sculptures of white stoneware clay are bisque fired and left chalkily unglazed. They reflect her fascination with the utilitarian architecture of World War II bunkers and Brutalism – forms that simultaneously barricade, protect and confine. Her current work is influenced by the traditional water carrying vessels of Ancient Greece which were vital to nurture and sustain life. Through these objects, Charmaine interrogates the space between function and form, labour and culture.
