Katie Gordon’s studio looks directly out towards her greatest artistic inspiration: her ever-evolving coastal Mediterranean garden. Fruit, flowers, leaves and shells all find their way into her meticulous coloured pencil drawings, in which the subject matter is often drenched in bright sunlight with the resultant shadows adding a theatrical component to the composition. This exploration of light and dark is central to Katie’s work, along with a sense of nostalgic yearning for the simple pleasures of a nature-focused lifestyle like the one she enjoyed as a child growing up in a small farming community in southern Africa.
