Based in North Beach, Dee Jaeger has been a practicing ceramic artist and teacher for 30 years. She favours figurative sculpture, utilising various hand-building techniques and stylistic expressions. She considers her forms a manner of 3D ‘canvas’ on which to express aspects of the human condition. In recent works Dee employs a technique of etching into the ‘skin’ of her figures, wrapping the form with both obscured, illegible scrawls and scribbles, as well as more obvious graphic motifs and text. Her surfaces are intended to imbue a sense of both liberation and ambiguity, allowing the viewer the final interpretation.
