About Janet Hummerston

Janet Hummerston draws inspiration for her ceramic practice from the vast contrasts and dramatic structures of landforms and plants in Western Australia. She continues to explore the use of local, and recycled industrial minerals mixed with local clays and other high fired Australian bodies. Her thrown and hand-built sculptural works are sometimes supported with structures made in collaboration with her son, sculptor Si Hummerston. Paramount to Janet’s practice is the exploration of the connection between the maker’s mark, the materials and the object.
