Philippa Gordon

Philippa Gordon is a professionally trained ceramist, fine artist and educator now in her 25th year of practice. Pip’s work embodies coastal influences drawn from her environment and the rich cultural knowledge of Japan. Having lived and worked in Tokyo for almost three years in the early nineties, the mega-city experience where art and nature pervade still resonates. Japanese aesthetics are echoed in Pip’s simple forms, where various clays are hand-rolled, printed, coloured, polished and impressed or inlaid with symbolic patterns or motifs, often forming layers in a multi layered surface. All slips, glazes and oxide washes are mixed by hand, with her colour palette reflecting that observed in the natural world.
