Janet Hummerston

Janet Hummerston is an experienced potter with a great passion for, and involvement in, the visual arts. Her interest in the uniqueness of place is evidenced in her use of local clays mixed with Western Australian minerals. She plays with distortion and the concept of balance using combinations of thrown and hand-built techniques. Her fascination with the structures of plant forms continually surfaces in her designs, as does her enjoyment of the exploration of both built and natural landscapes. Paramount to Janet’s practice is the exploration of the connection between the maker’s mark, materials and object.
