Jill Ansell was born in the wheatbelt of Western Australia and has been a recipient of many art awards as well as being a finalist in the Lester Portrait prize and semi-finalist in the Doug Moran Portrait Prize. She was a finalist in the Archibald Prize in both 2023 and 2024. Working in oil, acrylic and assemblages, her subject matter varies widely, from the beach to surreal desert landscapes to portraits. Jill’s assemblage work carefully weaves object and painted portrait together resulting in an intriguing glimpse into the intimate world of the subject.
