Johanna Valom

Johanna Valom is a Western Australian artist, working primarily in oil painting and textiles. Inspired by tapestries inherited from her grandmother, she creates abstract landscapes with luscious, impasto brushstrokes. Painting from both direct observation and from memories, she reflects on the paradoxical emotion of nostalgia and the fleeting nature of memory. In doing so, her work considers the oscillating, tacit dialogue between past and present.
